Therapeutic Exercises
Therapeutic exercise refers to a wide range of physical activities and movements that focus on restoring and improving strength, endurance, flexibility, stability, and range of motion. Your PT selects and prescribes certain therapeutic exercises based on your examination findings, impairments, and goals, to improve your functional mobility, overall physical functioning, and to aid in decreasing pain levels.
Balance Training
Balance training consists of exercises and activities aimed at improving your static and dynamic balance. They aid to improve safety with walking and mobility. Prescribed exercises and activities will depend on examination findings and level of impairment. Balance training can also be used to enhance physical performance following an injury.
Gait Training
Gait is the way a person walks. Gait training aims to restore normalized walking patterns to improve safety, decrease pain, and improve muscle firing patterns. Gait training can also be performed to instruct an individual in how to properly use an assistive device.
Postural Re-Training
An assessment of your seated and standing posture are performed during the examination, and appropriate exercises are prescribed to promote improved strength and endurance of postural muscles, as well as to improve mobility and flexibility of areas that have become tight due to repetitive poor postural positions. Your PT works in retraining postural control and can make recommendations about the set up of your work space.
Neuromuscular Re-Training
Neuromuscular re-education consists of activities, exercises, or manual therapy interventions aimed at improving movement patterns and motor function, by re-educating the nervous system.
Therapeutic Activities
Therapeutic activities include dynamic activities and movements that are geared toward improving functional performance of a task, such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, jumping and reaching.
